The man who had allegedly beaten up two women from Manipur in Kotla Mubarakpur was arrested by the Delhi Police on Sunday. Police said accused Prem Chand is the owner of the dog whose leash had allegedly got entwined with the woman’s leg prompting adverse reaction from her and her friend.
The women alleged that the accused manhandled them. Along with his cronies, Prem Chand made a racial slur as well. “Prem Chand (32) was arrested from his residence in Nanak Chandi area. The FIR was registered the same day,” said Rajan Bhagat, PRO Delhi Police.
According to police, the incident took place around 9 pm on January 24 when the 25-year-old woman with her friend had gone to a nearby store. The store is managed by the victim’s friend. Prem Chand’s servant was walking his dog in the area. The dog broke free and his leash got caught in the woman’s footwear. She alleged that the dog’s leash was tied to her boots and in her attempt to save herself, she started kicking around. This is when Prem Chand appeared on the scene and gathered local thugs.
Both the women were slapped around and divested of their belongings, including a cell phone and some loose change. A PCR call was made at 10.35 pm and a case was registered. A case of causing hurt and molestation has been registered at Kotla Mubarakpur police station. The victim’s friend on January 29 gave a supplementary statement and Sections of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Act were added in the FIR.
A senior police official claimed that the delay in arrest was caused since the identity of the accused could not be established. “More arrests are likely to be made in the coming days. We are trying to identify more people who had misbehaved with the women. Investigation is underway,” said a senior police official.
