Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to attend the swearing-in ceremonies of the new Chief Ministers and their ministers in Meghalaya and Nagaland on Tuesday. The next day, he will be in Tripura where the Bharatiya Janata Party would be forming its second consecutive Government under Manik Saha.
Conrad Sangma and Neiphiu Rio are set to be the CMs of Meghalaya and Nagaland, respectively.
In a repeat, the BJP would continue to be part of all three newly-elected governments in the North East. In Nagaland, the NDPP-BJP would be the ruling coalition and in Meghalaya, the NPP-PDP-BJP.
Saha was named as the next Chief Minister of the northeastern State at a meeting of the BJP legislative party held in Agartala on Monday.
A spokesperson of the BJP informed reporters after the meeting that the selection was “unanimously endorsed” by all MLAs of the party.
Earlier, there was speculation that Saha, who was made the CM last year in a renewal exercise replacing Biplab Kumar Deb, may make way for Union Minister Pratima Bhowmik as Chief Minister of the sensitive border State.
Speculation was rife in the last few days that Bhoumik, who won from the Dhanur Assembly constituency, a Marxist stronghold, may be chosen as the first woman CM of the State.
Home Minister Amit Shah BJP president JP Nadda and Union Ministers from the North-East will attend oath-taking events in the three State capitals. Several Chief Ministers of BJP-ruled States are also expected to join the swearing-in ceremonies.
