A 29-year-old Manipuri youth, Akha Salouni, was allegedly beaten to death by a group of five men in South Delhi’s Kotla Mubarakpur on Monday around 1 am. Three people have been arrested in this case. According to the police, the remaining accused have been identified and will be arrested soon.

Salouni and his two friends were heading for Kotla Mubarakpur in an auto-rickshaw. As they were about to enter Kotla Mubarakpur, a car occupied by five men came behind the auto and started honking for right of way. This led to a heated argument between the occupants of the auto and the car. It turned violent and the men in the car started thrashing Salouni and his two friends. Salouni was taken to AIIMS, where he was declared brought dead.

Police have got the CCTV footage of the area and are analysing the call records of the victim to verify whether the attackers were known to him. Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju said that the repeated attack on the North-East people is a matter of “great concern” for the Government. “The attack seems to be well-coordinated and pre-planned. Police have already obtained some of the footage of the incident,” he said. “Our Government is very sensitive to the issue...,” he added.
