A video that has gone viral on social networking site Facebook amply reflects the grave situation created by the increasing addiction of alcohol in Andhra Pradesh. The video shows an inebriated-looking man making an appeal to Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu for a loan for his drink.

P Yesupadam, a resident of Krishna district, has made

a fervent appeal to the

Chief Minister that the Government should grant a loan of Rs 400 per month to him as he cannot survive without liquor.

“There are many people like me,” he says in the video, which was widely shared on Facebook since it was uploaded by his friends on Sunday evening.

Yesupadam said that he tried to meet the Chief Minister but was not allowed to. “Hence I am using this medium to make the appeal,” he said.

Saying that he does not have money to get liquor, the visibly inebriated person said in the video that he cannot stay stable without it.

“If the Government gives loans and other benefits we would be thankful,” he said making the case of people like him. “Many political parties have been formed but no one has formed a liquor party,” he said.

Andhra Pradesh is known as one of the highest liquor consuming States in the country. Drinking has become a big social evil in the State, but since excise revenue contributes a sizeable part of the State revenue, the Government was averse to discourage liquor consumption.
