Mamata upstaged: High Court orders FIR against her MP Tapas Pal

A day after the Calcutta High Court ordered a CBI enquiry into the high-profile Parui murder case, the Mamata Government suffered yet another judicial blow on Thursday. The court threw out State Government’s plea and ordered a CID probe against Trinamool MP Tapas Pal for his public speech threatening the Opposition CPI(M) workers.

The court also ordered filing of an FIR against Pal and transfer of the case to CID within 72 hours of the verdict.

Daggers were soon drawn out against the CM for allegedly spending public money to protect the bad boys of her party. Both the left and the BJP on Thursday demanded a public apology from her for trying to shield her party’s Birbhum strongman and senior leader Anubrata Mandal and film-star-turned MP Tapas Pal.

Justice Nishita Mhatre, who decided the case as the third Judge after the Division Bench earlier gave a split order, ruled that the probe did not be a court-monitored one as was directed by the single-Judge Bench of Justice Dipankar Dutta who had severely reprimanded the police for not taking cognizance of the hate speech from Pal who had in June this year threatened the CPI(M) workers.

When contacted for his comments, Paul said, “I am busy with some other works.” Earlier the State Government apparently at the behest of the Chief Minister appealed before the Division Bench for quashing of the single Bench order as the Trinamool thought that the “chapter is closed because he has already apologised before the party for his comments.”

Meanwhile, the BJP State president Rahul Sinha on Thursday demanded a public apology from the Chief Minister for wasting public money in fighting law suits to save her party’s face and protect the bad boys of Trinamool Congress like Anubrata Mandal, Tapas Pal and others.

He also accused the Government for ruining the academic atmosphere of the Jadavpur University “by making a molestation case turn into an affair between the Vice-Chancellor and the students and then into the students and the Chief Minister.”
