Post-mortem examination conducted by the forensic experts of the Civil Hospital, Gurgaon, revealed that it was Inspector Badrish Dutt, posted with the Special Cell of Delhi Police, who had first killed his live-in partner Geeta Sharma and then shot himself dead.
However, investigation into the case has left a number of unanswered questions that includes if Dutt’s live-in partner was a mole of the Mumbai Underworld to fix Inspector Badrish Dutt. Another important question is the identity of Geeta Sharma, the mysterious woman who came from Mumbai to run a detective agency in Gurgaon.
“It has to be investigated as to who financed the purchase of the luxurious flat in Gurgaon’s posh Ardee City and what was the reason for her shifting base to Gurgaon from MumbaiIJ Was she a mole of the Mumbai underworld to fix Inspector Badrish Dutt who was a thorn in their flesh owing to his ability to track their calls and activitiesIJ,” sources said.
Dutt was also on the radar of several terrorist outfits as he unmasked many of their
anti-India cover operations by his investigative skills. It is still a mystery as to how Geeta Sharma (45), a divorcee, came to the national Capital and befriended inspector Dutt who had a tempestuous relationship with his wifeIJ
Dutt had even filed a divorce suit in a city court and the case was on its last legs. Some said they met in connection with a case but the mystery is yet to be solved.
Meanwhile, a team of forensic experts comprising Dr Deepak Mathur and Dr Hazari lal told the Investigating Officer (IO) Inspector Gaurav Fogat that the 'paraffin test' established the gun residue in the palm and wrist of Dutt. It denoted that it was he who first killed Geeta and then shot himself by placing his 9 mm service pistol on the right side of his temple.
Meanwhile a case of murder and attempt to commit suicide has been registered at Sushant lok police station under Sections 302/309 of the Indian Penal Code. The First Information Report (FIR) report has been registered on the statement of Inspector Kailash Bisht of Special Cell who was a colleague of Dutt. The weapon, leads recovered from the bodies and the two empty shells recovered from the spot have been sent for ballistic examination and any conclusion about the case hinges on this report. A police official involved in the investigations said that the ballistic report will determine who shot whom and who committed suicideIJ For the Gurgaon Police it is another case of emotions taking over and resulting in the subsequent tragedy. For Delhi Police, death of Dutt in such a tragic manner has numbed many officers who knew Dutt who was a master in tracking and interception and was considered an asset. His services were often requisitioned by central security agencies in many sensational cases.
If Gurgaon Police is to be believed, it is an open and shut case as they now know what had really happened in the second floor flat of Ardee City in Sector-52 on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday. However colleagues of Dutt who visited the crime scene are not willing to buy the theory being propounded by Gurgaon Police. They say the scene of crime was heavily 'dressed up' and the person behind the conspiracy to eliminate Dutt must have heaved a big sigh of relief since the city police almost concluded it to be a case of impulsive homicide and subsequent suicide. One of Dutt's colleagues said that it was impossible for someone to kill Dutt that too when he was carrying his service weapon. It appears that Dutt was served some sedative laced drink and then killed, he added. However, the forensic experts who conducted autopsy on the bodies denied that there was any sedative substance present in the abdomen of the duo. They did say that 'viscera' had been preserved and sent for chemical examination and the report would be the final opinion in this case.
