Jailed Trinamool Congress MP and one of the prime accused in the Saradha chit fund scam Kunal Ghosh on Monday threatened in front a magistrate to commit suicide if the CBI did not take proper action against big fish involved in the scam within three days.
Claiming “eyewash in the name of investigation” by the CBI, he alleged that that the CBI was working under the influence of powerful politicians and a section of senior police officers. He questioned “why many of the guilty people, including senior IPS officers who played a pivotal role in tampering with the witness, are not being arrested while I am rotting in the jail without any fault of mine.”
Kunal said, “I do not want to issue a blank threat. I will commit suicide and no one will be able to stop me from doing so if in another 48 hours the real culprits are not arrested.”
CBI sources said the agency has sought permission for HQ to arrest some influential politicians and senior IPS officers, who allegedly helped in tampering with evidence.
Ghosh also said that the chargesheet that had been submitted by the CBI do not contain much of what he had got recorded in his statement. “In whose interest this is being doneIJ” he asked alleging “I doubt the CBI has been working under some kind of influence. You don’t call it a probe where real culprits capable of tampering with evidence and influencing the probe roam scot free and innocent people with no power at all are made to rot in jail.”
