After a fruitful meeting with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Aditya Nath Yogi on Thursday, All India Jamiatul Quresh (AIJQ) on Thursday decided to end the 10-day-long strike against the crackdown on illegal slaughterhouses. However, the meat shops will open after Navratri as they have to fulfil the requirements for getting licences before the festival ends.
At around 6 pm, Health Minister Siddharth Nath Singh accompanied a delegation of AIJQ to Yogi’s residence to hold a detailed discussion about the problems and action taken against the meat shops.
Singh said the delegation of AIJQ met the Chief Minister and handed over their memorandum to him. The CM has clearly said that the Government will not do discrimination against anyone. The action against the illegal slaughterhouses was being taken as per the guidelines of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) and the Supreme Court.
“We are just implementing those orders overlooked by the previous Governments. The Government will consider the demands presented by the AIJQ in the meeting. The meeting was fruitful,” Singh added.
“The CM first heard our problems properly and said that he has not given any direction for action against the meat shops, these are the orders of the previous Government. But he still does not want to stop the licensed shops from opening,” said Chaurdary Ale-Umar, General Secretary AIJQ after the meeting.
In the meeting, the office-bearers of AIJQ shared that they buy animals from the farmers for which proper procedure is followed.
The slaughterhouses closed were run by Municipal Corporations and Nagar Panchayats, we have nothing to do with that, it was controlled by the Government officials only.
Chaudhary claimed that the CM said if the shops are licensed I have no problem in ordering the renewal of their licences. The order will be issued by Friday. The CM has asked to ensure that the licensed shops should fulfil the requirements and conditions as per rules and they would be allowed to open. He also assured that unless the slaughterhouses are prepared, the alternative arrangement for domestic slaughtering will be made.
“The CM said if we are doing the legal things he will support us but the illegal activities will not be spared even if it is done by the Government officials,” said Chaudhary.
“Now, the meat shop owners will make arrangements at their shops to meet the requirement for renewal of the licences,” he said adding, “We will complete requirements for licence before the Navratri ends.”
