Jewar gangrape victim tries to kill self in protest against no arrest

One of the four women, who were gangraped by a group of six men on Jewar-Bulandshahr road on May 24, allegedly tried to kill herself by hanging from a ceiling fan on Sunday afternoon in protest against police’s failure in arresting the accused. As the woman (50) was about to hang herself, her family members saw her and swiftly took away the scarf she was trying to tie in the ceiling fan. She has been tensed up for the last few days as her assailants have not been arrested yet, said her husband.

The victims have alleged that justice has been denied to them as the gangrapists are still at large despite tall claims of police that the accused will be nabbed soon. Even the UP Chief Minister had directed the police to expedite their investigation and arrest the accused.

A few days ago, relatives and neighbours of the victims had staged a sit-in at the tehsil office in Jewar demanding the arrest of the accused in the brutal murder and the gangrape.
