Enraged by the second marriage of his ex-wife, a 31-year-old man allegedly assaulted the woman, her family and killed her father.
Giving a bizarre twist to the whole incident, the accused Vikram, along with three other people went to his estranged wife’s house dressed in military fatigues late on Monday night.
On reaching the victim’s house in South-East Delhi’s Jaitpur area, he attacked his 29-year-old ex-wife Suman and five of her family members. Suman and Vikram have been divorced for the last two years and Suman married Sonu, a resident of Palwal, in January this year, which angered Vikram.
Vikram arrived at Suman’s house in Meethapur Extension, lakhpat Colony armed with two pistols, two knives, two dummy bombs, two litres of petrol, along with his elder brother and two friends.
“At around 1 am, Vikram arrived at Suman’s house in his car and began yelling her name,” a senior police officer said, adding that Suman had come to her father’s house to celebrate Dussehra.
“Suman’s father, Om Prakash (58), was sleeping outside the house to guard the construction material they had bought to build a new room in the house. When he heard Vikram shouting he got up and asked the young man to leave.
“This enraged Vikram and he began beating his former father-in-law and then shot him in the chest at point blank range.
“On hearing the noise, the elder son, Jai Parkash (32), came outside and Vikram shot Jai Prakash in the abdomen,” the officer said. In the meantime, the other family members woke up and went outside to check, but that did not deter Vikram and he started threatening them.
He told them that he was wearing a jacket attached with bombs. Then Vikram, his elder brother Satish and Vikram’s two friends took out their cleavers and attacked Suman, her mother Batti Devi (53), Suman’s brother, Madan Mohan (27) and Jai Prakash’s wife Sunita (24).
“Vikram was shouting that after eliminating us, he would set the house on fire and said he did not care about the consequences,” alleged Madan Mohan.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Suman sustained four stab wounds, one on her face, her lip, her hand and one on her chest. While Suman, Jai Prakash and Batti Devi are said to be critical, Madan and Sunita are out of danger.
The victims raised an alarm and hearing their shouts for help the residents of the area got together and overpowered Vikram. However, the other miscreants fled the spot.
Vikram also received injuries as the neighbours hit him with a brick in order to disarm him and had
beaten him up after overpowering him. “locals informed the police about the incident. The victims and Vikram, who was hit by a brick was taken to AIIMS Trauma Centre. His brother and two friends are on the run,” the police officer added.
The bomb disposal squad also inspected the spot but did not find any explosives.
Vikram was unemployed and Suman had divorced him because he used to harass her for dowry, beat her up and behaved abnormally.
