On the eve of the 26th Kargil Vijay Diwas celebrations, an army jawan was killed, and two Junior Commissioned officers (JCOs) received injuries in a landmine blast along the line of control in the Krishna Ghati brigade area of Poonch on Friday.
According to ground reports, the army jawans were conducting an area domination patrol as part of their routine duties when the landmine was accidentally triggered, resulting in the grievous injuries to three soldiers.
All the injured soldiers were immediately evacuated and shifted to a nearby medical facility for treatment. Out of three, the junior-most army jawan, identified as Agniveer Lalit Kumar of 7 JAT, succumbed to his fatal injuries. The condition of both JCOs was reported to be stable.
Authorities have initiated an investigation to ascertain the exact circumstances surrounding the blast, while the Army has paid rich tributes to the slain soldier.
In a post on X, the Nagrota-based White Knight Corps said, “GoC and all ranks pay solemn tribute to Agniveer Lalit Kumar, who made the supreme sacrifice while on an area domination patrol in the general area of Krishna Ghati Brigade on 25 July 2025, following a mine blast.” We stand with the bereaved family in this hour of grief.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha also paid tribute to Agniveer Lalit Kumar of 7 JAT Regiment, who laid down his life in the line of duty.
“I pay my heartfelt tributes to Agniveer Lalit Kumar, who made the supreme sacrifice in service to the nation. My deepest condolences to the bereaved family. The nation stands firmly with them, in this hour of grief,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
