An Army soldier was injured in an incident of unprovoked firing by miscreants in Manipur’s Imphal West district late on Sunday night. The soldier sustained gunshot wounds in his left leg and was promptly evacuated to the military hospital at Leimakhong.

The incident occurred around 11.45 pm in Kanto Sabal village, adjacent to Leimakhong (Chingmang). Following the attack, Army Columns took necessary action and retaliated with controlled fire, considering the presence of villagers in the vicinity.

Reacting to the attack on an Army soldier, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Monday warned people that they will have to face the consequences if they do not stop violence in the State.

“Stop it (violence). Otherwise, they will face the consequences. I also appeal to the people... Meitei people who are with arms ... Not to attack anything and maintain peace so that we can restore normalcy in the state,” Singh told reporters here.
