A daily wager, accused of trying to rape a woman in Manjakote jungle in Rajouri district on Friday, managed a 'joy ride' in a VVIP chopper of the J&K Government and later received a cash relief of Rs 5,000 distributed to passengers injured in a tragic road accident the same day.

The shocking revelation has embarrassed the J&K Police and doctors posted in the Rajouri district hospital as the accused effortlessly mingled with the accident victims to evade arrest in the rape case lodged against him in the Manjakote police station.

Before being airlifted to Government Medical College hospital in Jammu, along with nine other critically injured passengers, for advance treatment, the accused, identified as Mohd Parvez, son of Sabar Hussain, and resident of Thanda Pani, had come to Rajouri district hospital for treatment.

According to the police, Parvez had attempted to rape a woman near KatarMal village around 11.30 am on Friday.

Rajouri District Development Commissioner Saugat Biswas told The Pioneer, "We have ordered a high-level probe to ascertain the facts."

He said ACR(Revenue) and SDM, Nowshera, has been entrusted with the probe to find out under what circumstances the rape accused managed to give the slip to the police and the team of doctors before boarding the State chopper. Biswas confirmed that according to the Rajouri police, a complaint was lodged against Mohd Parvez on Friday.

While the complaint was filed against him around 4.00 pm on Friday, around the same time he was airlifted in a State chopper to Jammu for advance medical treatment.

Officials said that soon after the woman foiled the rape attempt and left Parvez with facial injuries, a major road mishap took place in which 15 passengers were killed and over two dozen injured passengers were rushed to district hospital in Rajouri.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had directed the Transport and CAPD Minister to rush to the accident site to take stock of the rescue operation and airlift injured passengers.

The rape accused, possibly took advantage of the prevailing chaos in the hospital and claimed that he too was travelling in the same mini bus and was badly injured. The doctors who were attending the patients immediately referred him to be airlifted to GMC, Jammu along with 9 other critically injured patients.

On reaching Jammu, in a State chopper, the rape accused received a cash relief of Rs 5000 and later went missing from the hospital. Police sources said he went back to his native village in Manjakote, but he ran out of his luck as the police nabbed him late on Sunday and booked another FIR against him.
