Hospital shields Burdwan terrorist, NIA moves court

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday moved the court alleging non-cooperation against Bengal’s biggest State-run health facility SSKM Hospital, where one of the prime accused in the Burdwan bomb blast Abdul Hakim was undergoing treatment after a bomb accidentally went off last month killing one terrorist and injuring another besides opening the lid off an extensive international terror network to groom terrorists and manufacture bombs in a number of districts.

The NIA alleged that the Hospital Superintendent was not providing the health reports of the terrorist thus preventing his interrogation. The court later directed the Superintendent to furnish Hakim’s report by October 31.

Even as the Opposition claimed that the hospital  authorities were acting at the behest of the ruling Trinamool Congress because the names of some of its leaders were cropping up for their proximity to the terror moles, the NIA told the court that its investigation process was getting hampered because of the non-cooperation of the hospital authorities.

Wednesday’s development took place amid reports of yet another bomb blast at Kankratala in Birbhum district in which three people were injured seriously while making bombs. Though the police initially ruled out terror hand saying they could be local goons who got injured while making bombs, three people including a woman who carried the injured to the hospital at Asansol were immediately detained.

The injured were identified as SK Kalim, SK Mujam and SK Munir while the woman who brought them to the hospital was identified as Mumtaz Begum, alias Jahanara Begum, wife of Munir. She however claimed that the injuries were sustained during a clash.

The incident took place on Tuesday night at Dholkumro village at Kankratala in Birbhum and the injured were brought to the hospital in a multi-utility vehicle. The area is not far from Khagragarh in neighbouring Burdwan district where the earlier blast had taken place.
