The Uber taxi rape case accused, Shiv Kumar Yadav, is a serial sex offender and has several cases registered against him at police stations in UP and New Delhi. In fact, Yadav started staying in Mathura after he was thrown out of his village in Mainpuri district for his sex-related offences, villagers informed The Pioneer.

Yadav is already being tried for a rape case registered against him at his home district Mainpuri. Yadav is on bail and evading the trial proceedings.

Mainpuri Superintendent of Police Shashikant Singh said that Yadav has three to four cases, including rape, registered against him. “After getting bail in these cases, he never turned up and has been absconding,” Singh added.

Three FIRs have been registered against Yadav at Elau police station. The first case filed in 2003 is under Section 354 (assault on women with intent to outrage her modesty), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the IPC. He was arrested and released on bail.

In 2006, he was booked under Arms Act and a chargesheet was filed against him. In 2013, a case of rape and robbery was filed against him. Separate cases under the Goonda Act were also filed against him in 2003 and 2009 at the same police station. However, no warrant is pending from any Mainpuri court against him despite the fact that he never attended court during the trial.

Two cases of molestation and rape were registered against Yadav at Mehrauli police station in the national Capital in 2011.

His father, Ramnath Yadav, said that though a few cases had been filed against his son, he had not been convicted in any of those. The neighbours of Shiv Kumar Yadav, however, complained that he was involved in eve-teasing cases in the village, and he was banished from the village.

His mother Gangashri said that if her son is guilty he should be punished.

During the course of investigation, the rapist cab driver disclosed that about two years back he had purchased a Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire after selling a piece of land at his village. According to the police, five months ago he learnt that Uber had started hiring private cab drivers for services, and then he approached a tout at the transport authority office in Sarai Kale Khan to get the documents.

Investigations have revealed that Shiv Kumar was beaten up on several occasions by the villagers due to misbehaviour towards women.
