A 25-year-old woman working with a Gurgaon-based finance company was raped by a cab driver she had hired to return home, in North Delhi’s Tri Nagar area, around 9.30 pm on Friday. The accused driver is still at large.
After leaving her office around 7 pm, she had gone to a colleague’s house for dinner in Vasant Vihar, from where she hired a cab run by a private company to take her to home in Sarai Rohilla.
On her way home, the victim fell asleep in the backseat of the car, only to wake up and find they had stopped at a secluded spot. She found the car doors were locked and when she tried to raise an alarm, the driver thrashed her and raped her, police said. He later dumped her and fled the spot. The girl informed the police who reached the spot immediately. A medical examination of the girl confirmed rape.
The girl has apparently clicked a picture of the car’s number plate and handed it over to the police. A case has been registered at Sarai Rohilla police station under Sections 376 (rape), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC.
