IB intercepts conversation, high alert in Capital
Central security agencies have put the national Capital on high alert after they intercepted conversations suggesting that the chief of banned terrorist organisation, Jama'at-ud-Da'wah, Hafiz Saeed has directed his cadres to launch an attack during the Independence Day address to the nation by the Prime Minister.
Apart from the Intelligence Bureau (IB) intercepts, the security agencies are also in a tizzy over the open threat issued by lashkar-e-Tayyeba (leT) founder Hafiz Saeed, in Pakistan on Friday.
India-baiter Saeed, whose role was very evident in the horrific 26/11 attack on the country's economic capital, spewed venom against the country while leading Eid prayers at lahore’s Gaddafi stadium.
Saeed reportedly asked his cadres to launch an attack on Red Fort during Independence Day celebrations.
Delhi Police and security agencies have activated all the resources at their command to prevent any untoward happening in the city, especially in and around Red Fort when Prime Minister Manmohan Singh unfurls the national flag and addresses the nation from the historic ramparts of Red Fort.
Saeed, who roams freely in Pakistan, had also tweeted against India before leading the Eid prayers.
His threat comes close on the heels of the cowardly attack on the area domination patrol of the Indian Army on Tuesday in Poonch sector, in which five soldiers were killed.
There are also Intelligence reports about the notorious Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) of Pakistan trying to exploit the recent conviction of Indian Mujahideen (IM) member Shahzad.
Shahzad was convicted for the murderous attack on Inspector MC Sharma of Delhi Police during the Batla House encounter on September 19, 2008.
The ISI is trying to activate sleeper cells in the country to assist IM cadres in carrying out terrorist strikes on important places in the Capital.
Highly-placed sources told The Pioneer that a specific alert was relayed to Delhi Police by the central security agencies in the backdrop of the hate speech by Saeed.
Special Cell, the anti-terrorist unit of Delhi Police has launched an operation to neutralize those who could try to disrupt Independence Day celebrations.
The Intelligence advisory issued by security agencies has warned about the possibility of a fidayeen (suicide squad) attack at Red Fort.
Security agencies also have earlier intercepts about the leT founder's plans to target Delhi.
The agencies had intercepted conversations between leT handlers and certain members who are active in Jammu and Kashmir.
Agencies immediately flagged off an alert to the Ministry of Home Affairs and Delhi Police about the impending lashkar attack and asked for immediate and effective measures to thwart their plans, the sources added.
The alert, sent by Intelligence Bureau (IB) to Delhi Police mentions a specific threat to the national Capital, following which Delhi Police has activated its units to deal with this threat.
A senior Delhi Police official confirmed that they have received such an advisory from security agencies ahead of the August 15 celebrations in Delhi.
Security in and around busy markets, crowded places, Metro and Railway stations, high-rise buildings, vital installations, embassies, high commissions and high-security lutyens' Zone has been intensified with armed contingents of Delhi Police backed by the specially-trained commandos of the central para-military forces.
Saeed audaciously peppered his speech during Eid prayers at lahore's Gaddafi stadium with anti-India rhetoric. That he was going to lead the prayers had been well-advertised in Pakistan and the walls of lahore were plastered with his posters.
It would be pertinent to mention here that Saeed carries a $10 million bounty announced by the United States Administration, on his head. One of India's most wanted terrorists and a key accused of the 26/11 attack, Saeed continues to have a free run in Pakistan and runs a terrorist training camp at Muridke near lahore under the watchful eyes of the ISI and Pakistan Army.
This 64-year-old cleric resides in a fortified house that has the lashkar office and a mosque in lahore. Saeed is guarded by hundreds of Kalashnikov-wielding mercenaries and also by the Pakistani State.
