Gujarat emerged as the latest force to be reckoned with in domestic cricket, winning their maiden Ranji Trophy final in Indore on Saturday.
Gujarat’s 5-wicket triumph on Saturday promises to throw the domestic tournament wide open after being dominated for decades by 41-time champions Mumbai. It was only the second time in 26 years that Mumbai have lost the final of this domestic tournament. Overall, this is the fifth time that Mumbai have lost a Ranji Trophy summit clash in their 46 appearances.
The last time it happened was when Kapil Dev-led Haryana beat Sanjay Manjrekar’s Mumbai by two runs in the 1990/91 season.
