The Ghaziabad Police has launched a massive operation to trace Dipti Sarna, a 24-year-old woman executive working for online shopping portal Snapdeal, who is believed to have been kidnapped while returning home after finishing her shift at 8.30 pm on Wednesday. Police are also looking for two men
and the driver of an auto-rickshaw allegedly involved in Dipti’s abduction.
Dipti, who works at Snapdeal’s Gurgaon office, used to take the Delhi Metro up to Vaishali Station in Ghaziabad, and from there, an auto-rickshaw to her house in Kavi Nagar. On Wednesday, Dipti left the Vaishali Station around 8.30 pm, took a shared auto-rickshaw in which a woman and two men were already sitting and phoned her father Narendra Sarna to tell him she was on her way home.
However, just a few minutes into the journey, the two male passengers forced the other woman co-passenger to alight near Mohan Nagar intersection and the driver turned the auto-rickshaw in the wrong direction.
Sensing trouble, Dipti called her father to inform him about the situation but her cellphone was allegedly snatched from her as she was talking and switched off.
When repeated attempts to contact Dipti failed, her father, accompanied by some local politicians reached the police station and informed them about Dipti’s abduction.
“We have registered her father’s complaint and several police teams have been put on the job to trace her, the auto-rickshaw driver and the two men,” said Salman Taj Patil, the Superintendent of Police (City).
Police have picked up a few auto-rickshaw drivers and leader of the auto-rickshaw union to establish the
identity of the driver and his accomplices.
“We are conducting raids to locate the girl and bring the accused to justice,” said a police officer.
Meanwhile, angry over the delay in tracing Dipti or the three men, hundreds of people protested outside the office of Senior Superintendent of
Police DS Yadav, demanding speedy action.
