The BJP will attempt to keep issues like “good governance and development” in the centre stage of political discourse and avoid the temptation of raking up emotive issues.

The party will speed up the exercise of fine tuning organisational and electoral set-up to put up a good show in the lok Sabha poll. Head of BJP’s national campaign committee, Narendra Modi, will also set up internal panels to take care of specific assignments. Modi will decide composition of these panels in consultation with Rajnath Singh and other senior leaders.

These decisions were taken on Monday at the party’s Parliamentary Board Meeting, which also reiterated its preparedness to face a snap poll if the situation arose. “BJP has come in election mode. We are ready for snap polls,” party general secretary Ananth Kumar said.

Sources said that senior leader Venkaiah Naidu presented a paper on poll management. The paper will be discussed in the next meeting of the board. The meeting also decided to fix accountability of various leaders, who would be entrusted with the task of poll management in different States.

Kumar said the BJP has decided to adopt a two-pronged strategy for the polls. This will include a political campaign with the party holding rallies and meetings across the country and an organisational strategy to put the party’s structure in place and take its campaign forward.

“The Congress party does not want to face Parliament because of its failure on corruption, price rise, economic crisis and other fronts,” he alleged. Kumar claimed that the UPA is “breaking from inside” and the Congress is “under pressure” from its allies, which posed a question mark on the convening of the Monsoon Session of Parliament in July.

The BJP Parliamentary Board also decided to attack the Congress on issues of corruption, economic crisis and price rise, besides the overall failure of the UPA Government. “We will keep our focus on issues and not individuals,” a senior BJP leader said.

The next meeting of the Parliamentary Board on July 17 is expected to take a call on programme that have been finalised by the general secretaries and members of theCentral Programme Implementation and Coordination Committee.
