In the third incident of gangrape in a little over a month in Bengaluru, a 35-year-old woman was gangraped by two security guards at the Karnataka State lawn Tennis Association, situated inside Cubbon Park, on Wednesday.

The woman — hailing from Tumakuru, 80 kms from Bengaluru — had come to the State Capital to enroll for tennis training, said police, adding that the guards have been arrested.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Sandeep Patil, the incident came to light when an Assistant Sub-Inspector who was on rounds noticed the woman sitting near Siddalingaiah Circle around 2.30 am and questioned her.

“The woman had come to the club late in the afternoon. Though some workers told her there was nobody in the club and asked her to come on Thursday, she decided to wait nearby,” Patil said.

At about 9:30 pm, two security guards approached her after noticing her sitting alone in the park. She sought their help to exit the park as she had lost the way. The guards under the pretext of helping her took her to a secluded place and allegedly raped her.

“A case has been registered. The guards have been detained, a detailed investigation is going on and medical examination of the victim and the two accused is also being done,” Patil added.

Both security guards whose identities have not been revealed by the police hail from Assam and have since been arrested and a case under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code has been slapped on them. The police will also summon the security agency and enquire whether background checks of the accused guards had been done, Patil said.

last week, a 19-year-old nurse was allegedly raped inside a moving bus by its driver at Hoskote, 40 kilometre from Bengaluru and on October 5, a 22-year-old BPO employee was allegedly raped by the driver and cleaner of a minivan.
