Gambhir booked for holding rally sans permission

The Delhi Police on Saturday lodged a formal complaint against BJP’s East Delhi candidate Gautam Gambhir on the direction of the Returning Officer of the Lok Sabha seat for allegedly holding a public meeting in Jangpura on April 25 without prior permission from authorities. A formal complaint is not an FIR.

“We have initiated action against Gautam Gambhir under sections 28/110 of the Delhi Police Act,” said Chinmoy Biswal, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast).

“Police have registered a ‘kalandra’, which is a formal complaint lodged by police in a non-cognisable offence under the act,” said a police official.

Meanwhile AAP’s East Delhi candidate Atishi questioned Gambhir in her tweet, “When you don’t know the rules, why play the game?”
