Five members of India’s 2011 World Cup winning team — Yuvraj Singh, Virender Sehwag, Zaheer Khan, Harbhajan Singh and Gautam Gambhir — on Thursday were left out of the 30-member squad of probables for the 2015 ODI World Cup.
The BCCI’s All-India Senior Selection Committee met here and preferred current form over past performance, which worked against all the five players omitted. The World Cup is to be held from February 14 to March 29 in Australia and New Zealand. The decision to ignore these players has put a question mark on their future given that none of the five have featured in an ODI for the last one year.
Apart from Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav, Jammu & Kashmir all-rounder Parveez Rasool, Manish Pandey and Kedar Jadhav benefitted from the overhaul, riding on their consistent performance in the domestic circuit. With the selectors opting to ignore seniors, there were no major surprises on offer in the list of probables.
