The sensational kidnapping of Ferozabad’s leading glass merchant Sanjeev Gupta for Rs 100-crore ransom took a curious turn on Tuesday as police claimed that Sanjeev orchestrated his “abduction” as a plan to coax his lenders to write off loans.
A senior investigator said, “The probe, so far, has established that the victim borrowed several crore rupees from his partners, and to avoid paying back, he seems to have orchestrated a kidnapping drama.”
Pradeep Pandey and Ankit Gupta were pressurising Sanjeev to return their money, sources said. Sanjeev had gone missing from a restaurant in Firozabad on Saturday. His family claimed to have received demands for a ransom of Rs 100 crore for his safe return.
