They finally did it in a typical Brangelina fashion — understated and very much under the radar. Hollywood’s most celebrated couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie finally got married in France in a small private ceremony at Chateau Miraval, which they own.
Jolie walked down the aisle with her oldest sons Pax and Maddox, while Zahara and Vivienne threw petals and Shiloh and Knox served as ring bearers. A spokesperson for the couple disclosed the news of their ‘secret’ wedding.
The private ceremony in a small chapel was attended by the couple’s six children and a few close friends. Before the non-denominational civil ceremony, Pitt and Jolie obtained a marriage licence from a local California judge. The judge also conducted the ceremony in France.
The two started dating after meeting on the set of their 2005 film, Mr and Mrs Smith. They got engaged in April 2012. At the time, they described it as a “promise for the future” and said they were very happy to be engaged. Ever since then, speculations over their marriage were rife. Both were open to talk about their relationship and even made public appearances like a couple very much in love.
The two reportedly said that they would not get married until “everyone else in the country” had the right to get married. But seems like the wait was getting too long for the couple.
In one of the interviews Pitt also said that “It’s an exciting prospect, even though for us, we’ve gone further than that. But to concretise it in that way, it actually means more to me than I thought it would. It means a lot to our kids.”
This is the second marriage for Pitt, who wed Jennifer Aniston in 2000. They divorced in 2005. Jolie was previously married to British actor Jonny lee Miller for three years in the late 90s and to Billy Bob Thornton for three years before divorcing in 2003.
Both Jolie and Pitt are prepping movies. Jolie’s second directorial effort, the World War II odyssey Unbroken, will be released in December. Pitt stars in the forthcoming World War II drama Fury, due for October release.
Pitt was reportedly back for shoot days after his nuptials. He was spotted on the set of his next movie with a new ring on his ring finger.
