A fight over water turned fatal as a 65-year-old retired Delhi Police Sub-Inspector was allegedly beaten to death by four women and a man in South-West Delhi's Palam area.
The trouble began on Saturday evening when SI (Retd) Ranbir Singh was standing in line to take water from a tanker. Two women jumped the queue and began filling water at which Singh raised an objection. This led to a heated argument which was resolved after residents of the area intervened and Ranbir Singh returned to his home in Raj Nagar Sector-II in Palam village.
However, late on Saturday evening, the two women barged into Singh's house, accompanied by two more women and a man and started hitting Singh and his wife with iron buckets.
“The incident occurred around 8 pm, when Singh was at home with his wife Bimla. Suddenly a group of four women and a man forced their way into his house and started hurling abuses at them. When the couple objected to it, they started thrashing them and hit Singh and his wife with iron buckets resulting in grave injuries to Singh and his wife.
After hitting them, the accused fled from the spot and the victims were taken to Bhagat Chandra Hospital in Dwarka, where Singh was declared brought dead while his wife is recuperating,” a police officer said.
Hospital authorities informed the police about the incident and after recording the statement, a case was registered under Sections 302 (murder), 449 (house-trespass in order to commit offence punishable with death) and 34 of the Indian Penal Code at Palam Village of South-West Delhi. Two of the women have been arrested, while three persons are absconding.
Police said that the arrested women have been identified as Santosh (60), Sunita (40). Sunita's husband is an ex-Army man and is currently working as a chief security officer with the domestic airport.Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim Singh had been living in Raj Nagar Sector-II for the last 20 years and the couple had no children.
