Former Jharkhand Minister and Congress legislator Yogendra Sao was arrested in New Delhi for alleged links with Maoist guerrillas, police said on Sunday.
A joint team of the Jharkhand Crime Investigation Department and Crime Branch of Delhi Police arrested Sao who had been absconding after Non-Bailable Warrants were issued against him by a Hazaribagh court in Jharkhand on September 14 for allegedly floating an ultra outfit.
Sao was picked up in an operation on Saturday from Shakur Pur area in North-West Delhi. His position was established after the police teams mounted technical surveillance on his movements.
“A joint operation was launched by the Crime Branch, Delhi Police and Jharkhand Police and Sao’s movements were tracked in Delhi. He was finally apprehended by the team on Saturday evening around 6.30 pm from JJ Colony, Shakur Pur,” said ACP (Crime) Ashok Chand. He was arrested in connection with an FIR lodged under the Arms Act as well as for facilitating commission of crime.
Jharkhand Police, thereafter, moved a court in Delhi seeking his transit remand to take him back to the State and a Delhi court on Sunday granted Jharkhand Police three-days transit remand of Sao.
Earlier on September 1, Jharkhand Police had arrested five members of Jharkhand Tigers Group and on their sustained interrogation it was revealed that Sao was allegedly providing arms, ammunition and vehicles to commit extortion, kidnapping for ransom and murder, etc.
The former Minister had on September 12 resigned from the Hemant Soren Government after the head of the “Jharkhand Tiger Group” Raj Kumar Gupta accused Sao of floating the outfit.
