Entertainment in Capital enters another dimension

Entertainment in Capital enters another dimension

Imagine having an elephant ride in a jungle or being aboard a ship tossing on turbulent waves — all just sitting in a capsule. Delhiites will soon get to experience a higher form of entertainment as films with synchronised effects of motion and wind, using 3D technology similar to the ones in Disneyland and other acclaimed amusement parks of the world, are set to hit the Capital.

Taking a cue from various adventure parks in countries like Singapore, United States, Bangkok, Tokyo and Australia, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has planned to set up mobile motion simulator capsules for entertainment purpose at six different locations in New Delhi area. Being mobile, these capsule simulators will be able to cover several places in a day.

“These mobile capsule-like simulators will be swanky both from outside and inside. There will be various kinds of motion dynamics. The simulator will have a hydraulic platform having the highest level of lift, pitch and roll giving all round entertainment to viewers inside the capsule. So while watching a short 5-10 minute film people will get to experience motion and other effects in synchronisation with the ongoing scenes,” said a senior NDMC official.

The movies will be animated and shall be screened in 2D and 3D form for a maximum of ten minutes. A single simulator capsule will have a capacity to hold around 20 people and there will be a variety of shows on offer — ranging from jungle safaris, to pirate adventures on the high seas, wars to space expeditions.

These bright and funky looking mobile simulators will be open to the public at various parking lots of the NDMC. To start with, six locations have been identified where these capsules will be stationed; these include the parking lots at Khan Market, Sarojini Nagar, Connaught Place (inner circle) and Gole Market, to name a few.

“The installation, operation and maintenance of the stimulators will be done by the companies. The NDMC shall charge the companies regular parking rates and commercial rates shall apply for electricity bills to be paid to us. The companies shall earn their revenue by charging people for the shows,” said another official. The number of simulators, however, has not been finalized yet. For this, it had issued a notice seeking expression of interest.

“Such mobile simulators are quite prominent in foreign countries. They are available in zoos and adventure parks and even on the streets. This is the first time that something like this will be opened in the Capital,” added the official. The NDMC had issued a notice seeking expression of interest and it received responses from three interested companies with different proposals. The civic agency said it won’t go for a tender and will allow installation of mobile motion simulators by anyone who approaches them.
