Since the online registration for Delhi University’s undergraduate (UG) courses started on May 15, the Bachelor of Arts English (Honours) has turned out to be the most sought after course with 25,000 aspirants applying for it.
BCom, BA Economics and BA Political Science (Honours) received 20,000 applications each, said DU officials, adding that the online registration process for UG and postgraduate (PG) courses will be open till June 7.
According to official figures, 1,18,312 students have registered for UG till Saturday evening. Out of which, total applications for mark-based UG courses are 65,523 while total applications for entrance-based UG courses are 27,109. Total male applicants are 44,732 and female 37,763, while applicants under other categories are only 18. DU has 56,000 seats at UG level.
The first cut-off for UG will be out on June 19 followed by second, third and fourth cut-offs on June 25, 30 and July 6 respectively. The fifth and the last cut-off for UG courses will be out on July 12. Almost three days will be given to successful applicants after the announcement of each cut-off and it is during this period that they would be required to get their documents verified and pay fees, said official sources.
On the other hand 14,000 applicants registered for various PG courses within 24 hours of opening of the university website on May 8. Online entrance exam will be conducted from June 17 to June 21.
“Many applicants are not in habit of going through the information bulletin before applying and thus making mistakes by choosing course/subject for which they are not eligible. Keeping this in view, this year, PG admission portal is devised in such a manner that an applicant can check her/his eligibility for a course by just selecting the course in the dropdown menu,” said a university official.
DU admits students in two categories at UG level: marks-based, entrance-test based. While admissions to merit-based courses are based on cut-off on the basis of marks, for the 10 entrance-based UG courses, entrance tests are conducted.
