Durga gets back Shakti after meet with Akhilesh, IAS officer reinstated

A day after IAS officer Durga Shakti Nagpal met Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and clarified her position; the Uttar Pradesh Government on Sunday revoked her suspension but did not give new posting.

“The State Government has revoked the suspension of 2010 batch IAS officer Durga Shakti Nagpal with immediate effect,” Government spokesman Prabhat Mittal told The Pioneer here on Sunday.

He said that Nagpal has been put on waiting list and would get her new posting very soon. Durga, along with her husband Abhishek Singh, also an IAS officer, had met Akhilesh to clarify her stand on Saturday, leading to speculation that revocation of her suspension was on the cards.

Nagpal was suspended on July 27 ostensibly for taking on the powerful sand mining mafia as SDM of Gautambudh Nagar. The Chief Minister and the ruling SP came in for widespread criticism over her suspension.

However, Akhilesh had sought to justify her suspension by claiming that she was suspended for arbitrarily ordering the demolition of a wall of an under-construction mosque in Kadalpur village. “Her action threatened to destroy communal peace,” he had said.

The Govt had on August 29 ordered a fresh probe and appointed Principal Secretary (Home) RM Srivastava as the inquiry officer in the case and called for a report within the next 15 days.

She was later served a chargesheet running into 10 pages, on a report of Commissioner (Meerut Division) alleging that the IAS officer had not adhered to the rules while demolishing a mosque wall to which she had later submitted her reply.

The suspension brought much discredit to the Akhilesh Government as demand for her reinstatement was raised from across the country.Even PIls were moved by independent organisations, both in the Allahabad High Court as well as the Supreme Court, to get her suspension revoked. But they were dismissed on technical grounds.
