External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Friday held bilateral meeting with her counterpart from Bhutan, Damcho Dorji, on the sidelines of BIMSTEC Foreign Ministers’ meet in Kathmandu.
This was the first meeting between the two leaders ever since the stand-off between India and China in Doklam started on June 16.
“Time with a close friend and neighbour. EAM meets with FM of Bhutan Damcho Dorji on sidelines of BIMSTEC Foreign Ministers’ meet,” MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar tweeted.
Though the Governments of India and Bhutan have not given out details of the meeting between the two FMs, it is understood that the two leaders discussed the ongoing stand-off and possible ways to de-escalate the tension with China.
Both India and Bhutan in their previous statements have made it clear that China has to pull back its troops from Doklam and maintain status quo for any fruitful diplomatic discussion to take place.
