A birthday party attended by a 24-year-old gym instructor turned fatal as he was stabbed to death by a disc jockey (DJ) after a quarrel

over playing of songs at a bar in West Punjabi Bagh on Sunday night.

Among other people, who were injured in the full-blown bar fight was victim’s girlfriend, who suffered severe head injuries.

“The accused identified as Deepak Bisht, who worked as a DJ in Raftaar Bar and hails from Uttarakhand, was arrested from Burari. A butter knife which was allegedly used to stab gym trainer Vijaydeep has been recovered,” said West Delhi Deputy Commissioner of Police Vijay Kumar.

One Ishu Sondh had invited his friends, including Vijaydeep, to attend his birthday party at the club, said police, adding that some eight to nine friends were dancing while songs were being played on the fourth floor by Deepak.

Trouble started after Vijaydeep, a resident of Tilak Nagar in West Delhi, asked Deepak to change the song. Argument between the two party started as Deepak refused his request. Altercation soon turned into fisticuffs.

According to eyewitnesses, the two parties got engaged in a fight where chairs were flung around and beer bottles were smashed. During the fight, Deepak’s laptop fell down. In a fit of rage, the DJ stabbed Vijaydeep with a butter knife and also smashed a beer bottle on his girlfriend’s head, when she came to his boyfriend’s rescue. She has been admitted to a hospital, police said.

Someone called up the police control room, but by the time police took Vijaydeep to a nearby hospital, he was declared brought dead. Meanwhile, the bartenders and staff ran away from the bar.

Police have reportedly recorded the statement of the people who were present at the birthday party, while some of the bar employees have been detained for further questioning, a police official said.

“We are also questioning Vijaydeep’s friends to establish their roles and the sequence of events that led to the murder,” said a police official.
