With major parts of the country, including the north, north-east and eastern regions, coming under the spell of another Western Disturbance (WD), the weather will remain pleasantly cool for at least one more week.
According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), the WD is likely to cause rain or snow over higher reaches of Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand during the next one week.
While rain/snow has already occurred in most places in J&K, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, major parts of North-east, including Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, and Mizoram, and parts of Haryana, West-Bengal and Sikkim are also going to get rain and thunderstorm. Minimum temperatures are likely to go down.
IMD officials have predicted that thunderstorm accompanied with hail would prevail in North-eastern States, parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, western Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan for the next 24-48 hours. The impact may well continue till the mid of next week.
According to the IMD officials, impact of Western Disturbance is persisting over J&K and its intensity might increase causing more rain. Though the Jhelum River is flowing below the danger mark, authorities have not withdrawn the red alert saying the next 24 hours are critical. They apprehended that the fresh rainfall might again swell up the river and its tributaries.
