The Delhi Traffic Police appears to have adopted “zero tolerance” to traffic violations. The Traffic Police has realised nearly Rs 60 crore in challans in the first half of the current year. Most of the challans were issued to vehicle owners driving with tinted glasses. The Supreme Court had prohibited use of tinted glassed in vehicles.
Replying to a RTI query, Traffic Police said till June 30, a total amount of Rs 56,46,96,100 (including compound and court challan) have been collected by issuing 35,80,036 challans in the same period, whereas total amount collected through fines last year was Rs 98,56,71,300. The fine collected goes to the State treasury.
