Delhi Police trackingmoney trail to indictKundra for betting

The Delhi Police is trying to uncover the money trail to build up a case against Raj Kundra as he was actively involved in betting during the Indian Premier league (IPl) matches.

"We do not trust his statements because their team won 11 matches out of the 16 matches played in this season. It's hard to believe that he lost money in betting. This will be verified and cross-examined in the light of the facts and evidence available. Tracking the money trail is a difficult task as the transactions are through the 'Hawala route'. If needed Kundra will be questioned again," said a senior police official.

In another significant development, Ramesh Vyas, who was arrested by the crime branch of Mumbai police in connection with the IPl spot fixing scandal, is being brought to Delhi and his questioning is expected to throw further light on the spot-fixing scandal.

"He is being brought by train to Delhi. They have started their journey and would be reaching by Sunday. Vyas is also accompanied by around 10 security personnel," said a police official. Vyas will now be questioned face to face with other bookies to check his alleged involvement.

Meanwhile, Umesh Goenka (the business partner of Kundra who is also a bookie) made a statement before a magistrate. He claimed that Kundra's wife; Shilpa Shetty had also indulged in betting once. Shilpa Shetty had placed a bet for Rs1 lakh.
