Sarthak Aggarwal gets 99.6% in Science; students from Capital first in Commerce, Humanities streams too
The national Capital achieved a unique feat of producing toppers in all three streams of CBSE Class XII examinations, results of which were declared on Thursday. 17-year old Sarthak Aggarwal of DPS, Vasant Kunj, topped in Science stream securing 99.6 per cent marks, thus also becoming the all-India topper.
In Commerce and Humanities too, Delhi boys came out with flying colours. G Harishankar from Air Force Bal Bharati School topped in Commerce stream with 99.2 per cent marks, while Mugdha Sethia from DPS Indirapuram and Vasudha Gaur Dikshit from Vasant Valley School jointly topped in the Humanities with 98.8 per cent marks each.
Having secured 100 per cent marks in all subjects, Sarthak missed out by two marks in English paper that prevented him from obtaining 100 per cent aggregate, a unique distinction in the CBSE examinations. But what made his success even more inspirational was his self-study as he achieved it without the help of any private tutor. He attributed his success to self-study, focus and determination.
Sarthak did his schooling from the Delhi Public School, Vasant Kunj, in Science stream. His subjects were Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Economics and English in Class XII.
“I never believed in taking extra coaching. I always studied on my own and paid attention during classes. There was constant hard work involved,” he told The Pioneer.
However, even after studying Science in school, Sarthak wants to pursue Economics Honours from the University of Delhi. “I want to get into Sri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) or St Stephens College and study Economics Honours. I always knew I wanted to do this so I chose my subjects accordingly. I had a liking for Science and feel that it gives knowledge for life so I didn’t take up Commerce,” Sarthak said.
However, Sarthak’s ‘genius’ in academics --- as his parents refer him --- did not hamper his performance in extracurricular activities. He is a good sportsman and also a good singer. “I like playing sports and also like to sketch and sing. I play cricket and table tennis and have won medals in table tennis,” added Sarthak.
He is the only child in his family and now wants to focus on building a good career. “I feel that while I’m achieving a good education I should apply it well also,” he said.
