Def assets in Kutch on terrorists' hit list

After Pathankot attack, Pakistan-based terror groups may try to target defence installations in the western frontier. latest intercepts have revealed that a group of terrorists might have infiltrated through the area manned by the BSF’s border outpost (BOP) No 1170 in the Kutch Sector, which has sensitive Defence installations, including Air Force and Army bases.

Following the inputs by the Intelligence Bureau/Multi-Agency Centre (MAC), security on the ground at the Air Force and Army bases in Kutch have been beefed up by the respective forces.

Other inputs indicate continuous intercepts originating from the sea near Bhuj in Gujarat on the possible infiltration from the area under this BOP.

Inputs with the Intelligence agencies also suggest that Pakistan-based lashkar-e-Tayyeba (leT) has shifted a number of its camps from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) to the border across the Rann of Kutch. leT chief Hafeez Sayeed too has visited the areas across the Rann of Kutch to oversee the functioning of the outfit’s camps, Intelligence sources said.

“The move by the outfit suggests a shift in the tactical designs by their masterminds in the security establishment there (Pakistan) as also their agenda to expand the theatre of terror from the northern to the western sector,” an official said.

The flurry of chatters in the telecom networks just after the Pathankot attack and days before the Republic Day celebrations has led the Government to order a security audit of all defence installations across the country.

The national Capital has been put on high alert in the wake of the inputs.

Just a day after the terror attack on the Pathankot airbase began, the MAC too issued an alert on January 3 stating that four “boys” entered the national Capital through Kapasheda border in an auto-rickshaw.

“They have some weapons with them and were talking to cause bomb blast,” said the intercepts of conversation between a person named Dilshad on his mobile on the one end and another one who called him from a landline number. Besides these two, the number of another suspect related to them is also under surveillance.

A major mall in Saket, Metro stations and crowded areas like Chandni Chowk, Karol Bagh and Ashram are suspected to be the possible targets of these terrorists who could be hiding here.

With technical support from the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Pakistan Army, the leT has launched a massive recruitment drive and a dedicated IT team is developing an App to recruit even educated youth in its fold for furthering its anti-India “jehadi” agenda.

The leT had organised a Social Media Conference on December 26 and 27 at Markaz-e-Qadsia, lahore. The punch line of the posters at the event read, “Deleting pages won’t stop us; for every page India has deleted we would continue to make dozens more.”
