Not able to pay debt to a friend, three men hatched a conspiracy to kill the lender by first inviting him to a binge drinking party in Northwest Delhi’s Mukherjee Nagar area near the Nirankari Park and after savouring alcohol they attacked him with a beer bottle at 10pm on Wednesday.
And as if that was not enough, the victim’s inebriated friends ran their car over profusely bleeding 29-year-old Arvind thrice, said police, adding that all the accused were arrested on Friday after a video of the ghoulish incident grabbed by a passer-by was uploaded on the social media went viral.
Arvind’s brother Madan said, “After being thrashed mercilessly by his friends, he begged the locals to take him to hospital but they did not offer any help. Some people recorded the video instead of rushing him to hospital. They said it was a police case.
“It was only half an hour later that one of the passers-by who saw Arvind in pathetic state made a call to the Police Control Room after which police arrived and took Arvind to the Sushruta Trauma Centre.” Arvind, whose condition is stated to be highly critical, is admitted to Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Sushruta Trauma Centre with multiple injuries.
In a written statement submitted to police, Arvind said, “We were having a drink when we got involved into a quarrel over money. I was hit on my head with a beer bottle, causing me to collapse.”
Describing the atrocity, a senior police officer said, “One of the assailants held Arvind by his hands while another one ran his car over him thrice.”
A case under Section 307 (attempt to murder) has been lodged and police are looking into the matter.
