The much-hyped plan of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) to make Inner and Middle Circles of Connaught Place (CP) vehicle-free zone from February 1 could be deferred as the council is not ready with its action plan, said an official.
The Delhi Traffic Police, which is supposed to enforce the decision, has submitted its action plan. “However, NDMC is still to take the permission of Ministry of Urban Development,” added an
official.
Traders in CP have been opposing the civic agency’s plan. Calling the plan an ill-conceived decision that is fraught with miseries for them, they have decided to oppose the car bandi tooth and nail. Raising the security concern, regular visitors to CP have given thumbs down to the NDMC decision.
