Known for his one liners and wit, Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu came up with a suggestion regarding Ministers while conducting the House on Friday.

As they were laying papers related to their departments, Naidu said the Ministers should refrain from saying “I beg to lay the papers. Instead, they can simply state I rise to introduce the papers.”

Obviously referring to the continuing colonial practice of using such official language, Naidu said the “country is now independent. There is no need to beg.” He, however, clarified it was a suggestion on his part and not a directive.

He also stood up to read out obituary references of former MPs. His predecessors used to remain seated while doing so and stand when the House pays respect to the departed.
