Cops search for tantrik as Karkardooma shooter kills self

Karkardooma shooter Pawan, accused of murdering his wife and attempting to murder his father-in-law, met a violent end himself on Wednesday. He was found hanging from a tree near Muradnagar Railway Station.

Pawan had shot at his relatives at Karkardooma Metro Station, creating a furore on Tuesday. He was wanted by the Crime Branch and Railways forces. A Delhi Police team also visited the spot where his body was found. Police are also investigating whether Pawan killed his wife on the advice of a tantrik. Teams have been sent to Brij Ghat in Ghaziabad to identify and question the tantrik, who will face charges under Section 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) if found involved.

Pawan was on the run after the murder and managed to give police the slip even after he was located near Brij Ghat in Gadh Mukteshwar, Ghaziabad.

His body was found the next day and identified on the basis of a slip recovered from his pocket.

A post-mortem examination was conducted at Ghaziabad District Hospital and the body was handed to the family later. However, Deepti’s family members claimed this was not true and that they were unsure if the body was actually Pawan’s.

Delhi Police officials said the body was identified by Pawan’s family. “Police also said there were two other men with Pawan. We are not sure if the body has been identified as Pawan. It’s a threat to us, if he is still alive,” said Nidhi, Deepti’s sister.

The police rubbished all such doubts, saying that motive in the case was being established. According to Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravinder Yadav, Pawan had visited a tantrik at Brij Ghat a day before the shooting, to sort out discord with his wife Deepti. Two of his friends accompanied him and they too will be questioned, the ACP added.

After being shot by Pawan at the entrance of Karkardooma Metro Station on Tuesday, Deepti had died on the spot, while her father Bishan Das was rushed to a nearby hospital. His condition is said to be stable. “There is bleeding in his shoulder and this is a reason for worry but he is out of danger now,” said the ACP.
