Questions have been raised over the investigation conducted by the Gurugram Police into the sensational murder case of 7-year-old Pradyuman Thakur on the Ryan International School’s Bhondsi campus on September 8.
Sources claimed the Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed to probe the murder case had scanned only one CCTV footage of the crime whereas CBI sleuths scanned all the available CCTV footages of the murder case and identified the accused Class XI student who was seen in the footage.
Meanwhile, CBI team summoned the four-member SIT of the Gurugram Police on Tuesday to ascertain whether there was any deliberate attempt by them to take the probe in a particular direction.
Highly placed sources within the Haryana Police have revealed that the investigation team could scan the footage of only one of the two CCTV cameras placed outside the washroom. It remains to be seen as to why SIT did not examine the footage of the second camera, sources added.
The investigation took a dramatic twist on November 8 when the CBI arrested a Class XI student, also of Ryan Intern-ational School, and charged him with murdering the child in the school washroom.
Meanwhile, the CBI sources claim that the arrest was based on the CCTV footage which was later scanned by the agency in their Hyderabad-based laboratory. It is also believed that the CCTV footage was the main evidence against the arrested boy.
Sources within the Central agency said they have investigated the matter on the basis of footage from CCTV cameras which were located at the crime scene.
“The evidence which was collected by the Gurugram Police was handed over to the CBI. The city police had investigated this case for only 14 days before it was transferred to CBI on September 22”, a senior police official said.
“The Gurugram police didn’t get so much time to scan CCTV footage the one which was scanned by the police was not clear, said the police sources.
Bus conductor Ashok Kumar’a bail application is stated to be heard on Thursday. There are indications that CBI will not oppose his bail application. Gurugram Police had tried to present Kumar as the main accused in the case.
Earlier Ashok’s’s counsel Mohit Verma said that the CBI has given a clean chit to his client who was not involved in the murder.
The teenager who was arrested by the CBI in connection with the murder has been sent to an observation home in Faridabad on November 11. The boy will be kept there until November 22. The next hearing in the case has been scheduled on the same day.
