Shantakumar Sreesanth is a broken man these days. After he was intercepted by Delhi Police Special Cell on the intervening night of May 15 and 16, he has been desolate. He broke down and wept inconsolably after his worried mother came to meet him at the lodhi Road office of the Special Cell.
His mother, Savithri Devi, visited him on Friday and the very sight of his mother made Sreesanth cry like a little child. This was the first time since his arrest that his mother, along with his sister, visited him in the custody.
‘He burst into tears as he saw his mother and sister on Friday. He also told them to pray for his early release,” sources said. A worried Savithri Devi accompanied by her daughter Nivedita visited her prodigal son who is finding it tough to adjust in incarceration. However, Sreesanth's brother Dipu has been making regular visits twice a day to the cell.
Apart from their lawyers, several relatives and friends frequently visit the Special Cell office of Delhi Police to keep tab on their dear ones. Ankeet Chavan's fiancé too has visited him a number of times. Chavan's uncle, father and sister also met him. Chandila's wife and bookie Jiju's girlfriend too visited.
There has been a spate of visitors who have been flocking Special Cell's lodhi Road office and the investigators have been facing a harrowing time handling these visitors as precious time gets absorbed in extending pleasantries to the kith and kin of the arrested players and bookies.
"Arrested players are being given regular food that is prepared at the mess. Relatives and friends, coming to meet the players, are not being offered any special treatment," the source said.
Meanwhile, Sreesanth complained of restlessness and underwent a medical check up. He was examined by All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) doctors. "Reality has taken a toll over him that he would have to go to jail. The cricketer is now aware that he has committed a big mistake. He complained of uneasiness on Friday and was examined by doctors of AIIMS. His parameters are normal," the source added.
