Though the Delhi Police has failed to arrest AAP MlA Somnath Bharti so far over a domestic violence case filed by his wife, his pet dog named ‘Don’, who is reportedly unwell, was taken for a medical checkup by a South Delhi police team on Friday. Don, a labrador, is suffering from heart disease and is completely dependent on medicine. According to the doctor, who has been treating Don, the dog would die if the medication stops.

A team of local police station reached Bharti’s Malviya Nagar office and took the dog for medical examination at a veterinary hospital in Niti Bagh. The team later dropped the dog back to the office after the examination.

“He is quite bulky and walks very slowly. He doesn’t bark much either. Doctors have asked the servants to keep a watch on his activities,” said sources. Don, which had allegedly attacked Bharti’s wife lipika Mitra at the behest of Bharti, is now at the centre of a police probe.

Meanwhile, police source said it has traced the hideouts of Bharti, an Aam Aadmi Party leader, somewhere in Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh. “Bharti has so far (within four days) changed more than six mobile phones and sim cards. The location of his last two sim cards indicated his movements somewhere in Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh,” added the source.

Sources in the police said that the doctor, after the medical test, told the police that the dog’s condition is quite bad as he is suffering from a heart disease. A servant of Bharti named Gulshan Sharma, who takes care of Don at Bharti’s office in Malviya Nagar, said that Don was taken by a police team to a clinic at Niti Bagh at 4 pm. They returned back to Bharti’s office with the dog within an hour.

Veterinary doctor Dr Pradeep Rana, who has been treating Don, said that the dog was suffering from the dilated cardiomyopathy. He is totally dependent on medicine and would die if the medication stops, said the doctor. In the locality, MlA’s neighbours are very much concerned about the dog.

Sharma said the dog is about 12-years-old. He needs medicine thrice a day but they could not give him the medicines as Bharti had locked all the medicine strips in his personal cabin. Bharti is on the run for the past two days after his bail petition was rejected by the High Court.

Sources said after check up by doctors on Friday, Don has been provided the heart medicines from the doctor. Sharma said the medicine will be given accordingly, as prescribed by the doctors.
