lS election campaign will be a national movement against graft and price hike, asserts Gujarat CM

BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi termed the Congress a burden for the nation and urged people to get rid of it in the upcoming lok Sabha elections. Addressing a mammoth gathering of over 1.5 lakh people in a rally in Ranchi on Sunday, Modi claimed that the 2014 general election will become a mass movement against corruption and bad governance across the country.

“We have to take a pledge for development. I believe the 2014 elections will turn into a mass movement against bad governance and a war will begin to establish good governance in the country. I urge all of you to take the mantra of development. Ensure a future for the youth and give priority to security and dignity of mothers and sisters. This will lead to development,” Modi said.

The BJP’s prime ministerial candidate said that the nation needed good intentions for development, and the Congress did not even have honesty in its intentions. “In order to develop the country, we need strong determination, not hollow promises. And the intentions should also be sacred but they (the Congress) do not even have morality and honesty,” he added.

“Congress has become a liability for the country and is in a crisis because it is cut off from the people. They don’t hear what people want. It is time to understand that people want development with opportunities, not political opportunism,” Modi said.

The PM-in-making said that leaders of the Congress were coming out with heavenly announcements and while they were doing virtually nothing to curb price rise, inflation and corruption. “They have absolutely no accountability. They come, make Aakashvani (heavenly announcements) and disappear. The Centre is paralysed,” he said.

Coming heavenly on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the matter of price hike, the Gujarat Chief Minister said: “The PM had called a meeting of CMs three years back on curbing inflation and several committees were made. I was also made the chairperson of a committee. I had submitted my report two-and-a-half years back with 62 points/objections but nothing has been done in that regard so far,” he said.

“The people of the country today need development, not divisive politics; skill development, not false promises; security instead of communalism. Farmers need electricity, not caste-based politics. We have to kill these evils and tread the path of development.

let’s take this pledge and make the nation a beautiful place to live in and spread prosperity among the masses,” the leader roared in front of the fanatical crowd and concluded his speech with a humble Johar to the people of Jharkhand.

Wondering how coal-rich Jharkhand should fall behind in electricity generation, Modi alleged it was due to the lack of vision on the part of those who ruled since Independence by not setting up power plants near coal-pits.

“Any expert will say that a state with these kind of resources can match any developed country....Such a state rich (in terms of resources) is still poor,” he said.
