The Congress has strongly criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his conspicuous silence regarding the escalating ethnic violence in Manipur, as the clashes between the Meitei and Kuki communities continue to claim numerous lives. With over 100 casualties reported in the past month, the situation demands urgent attention.
Taking a swipe at the Prime Minister, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh remarked, “So, yet another ‘Mann Ki Baat,’ but complete silence (‘Maun’) on Manipur.
While the Prime Minister praised India’s disaster management capabilities, he conveniently ignored the entirely man-made [actually self-inflicted] humanitarian disaster unraveling in Manipur.”
Ramesh sharply criticised the Prime Minister’s emphasis on disaster management achievements while disregarding the grave situation in Manipur, which is a result of internal conflicts. He further highlighted the absence of any peace appeal from the Prime Minister, raising pertinent questions about Modi’s concern for Manipur. The mention of the non-auditable PM-CARES Fund further fueled concerns about the Prime Minister’s commitment to addressing the pressing issues faced by the region.
