Cong at its wit's end over support to AAP Govt

The Congress remains in two minds about pulling out of the AAP Government in Delhi. While a section of the party favoured immediate withdrawal of support to the fledgling Government, another section opposed such a move at least till the lok Sabha elections.

AICC spokesperson Randip Surjewala said the Congress would take an appropriate decision at an appropriate time as the AAP Government was now behaving in an anarchic and unconstitutional manner. “We are disappointed with their performance and conduct so far. The Congress had supported the AAP Government so that they can carry out work for the welfare of people as they had promised. But they do not seem to be coming true to the expectations till now,” Surjewala said, when asked about continuing support to the Delhi Government even as top Congress leaders and Union Ministers are being hurled abuses by the AAP leadership.

AICC general secretary Ajay Maken said that it was high time that Kejriwal started delivering instead of complaining on hosts of issues.

Maken was instrumental in the formation of the Congress supported AAP Government in Delhi when a “confused” party high command left the matter to Delhi AICC general secretary incharge Shakeel Ahmed. There were sharp differences among the Congress leadership during the process when some of them wanted to support the minority AAP Government in order to keep the BJP at bay, and others, including former Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, opposed a Kejriwal-led regime in Delhi.

A senior party leader, speaking on the condition of anonymity, however, indicated that the Congress may not rush to withdraw support to the AAP Government. “With the growing resentment among citizens against the Congress, it will not be possible for us to pull the plug. Delhi example will remain a political compulsion at least till the lok Sabha polls are held.

Any change will reflect on the national mood. This will not be the appropriate time to undo the mistake already done. Congress ne apni pair par kulhaadi mari hai,” said a top leader.
