Come July 1, flyers can check-in at New Delhi, Shivaji Metro stations

Air India and Jet Airways passengers will be able to check-in for domestic and international flights from both New Delhi as well as Shivaji Stadium stations of the Airport Express line from July 1 onwards.

Currently, only Air India passengers have the option to check-in at New Delhi station of the Airport Express line, and that too for domestic sector and a few gulf countries. However, from July 1, the check-in facility will be available at Shivaji Stadium Metro station for both domestic and international flights, a Metro official said on Tuesday.

“Passengers of Air India and Jet Airways can check in their baggage from these two stations from two hours to 12 hours before the scheduled departure of the flight. The check-in facility would close two hours prior to the departure time,” the official said.

The official added that the air passengers will obtain their boarding pass at the check-in counter at the stations where they can also drop their baggage. “The checked-in baggage will be transferred to IGI Airport’s Terminal-3 through a secured Baggage Handling System (BHS). The highly sophisticated system ensures that baggage reaches airport in time. Free luggage trolleys are also available for passengers at the entry gates and platforms at all metro stations of the Airport Express line,” the official added. The step comes after a series of measures to improve ridership of Airport Express line by providing better service and more convenience to the commuters. The average daily ridership of this line currently stands at around 36,000.

The measures taken by DMRC include a Visa Facilitation Service (VFS) at the Shivaji Stadium Metro Station, reduction of fares by up to 50 per cent and increasing frequency of trains, improvement of timings and adjustment of the departure timings as per the arrival of Shatabadi Express trains.

Referring to the check-in facility at the two metro stations, DMRC spokesperson said that the move was made possible “due to joint efforts of Delhi International Airport limited (DIAl), DMRC, Air India and Jet Airways”.
