CNG stickers for 'petrol' cars with hush money!

Published on:

After a sting operation by a news channel caught a CNG filling station worker giving away Government-certified stickers for four-wheeled CNG vehicles to a petrol car for `2,800, the Government has decided to make them available only at one place. Earlier, the stickers were issued at 110 locations across Delhi-NCR to CNG vehicles to avail of the exemption from odd-even formula.

These stickers will be available only at CGO Complex filling station of Indraprastha Gas limited (IGl) from Wednesday onwards and random checks of CNG vehicles will also be conducted to ensure that they have CNG cylinders, Transport Minister Gopal Rai said. The station will remain open round-the-clock. “Apart from that, we will also conduct random checking of vehicles with CNG stickers to ensure if they have CNG cylinders as well. An FIR will be registered against the owner of the flouting vehicle,” added Rai.

The sting operation has caught the staffer at Vivek Vihar IGl station, identified as Deepak Sen, pasting CNG stickers on petrol vehicles for `2,800 each. Following which, an enquiry was conducted by IGl officials. Sen confessed to the charge. He was suspended and an FIR under Section 409 (Breach of Trust) was registered against him.

“There are 3.5 lakh CNG vehicles in Delhi. And ever since these stickers were made available at IGl stations, over 3.9 lakh stickers have already been issued in Delhi and NCR. On presumption that 3.9 lakh stickers are sufficient for 3.5 lakh vehicles in Delhi, and the rest in NCR, we have decided to stop their availability. However, the stickers will be available 24x7 at CGO Complex IGl filling station so that genuine consumers of CNG don’t face any problems,” Rai said, adding that senior IGl officials will closely monitor distribution of these stickers.
