Kejriwal named in FIR for provocative speech

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his Cabinet colleagues may face legal action as the Delhi Police has mentioned their names in one of the three FIRs registered in connection with Kejriwal’s dharna outside Rail Bhavan in violation of section 144 of the CrPC.

Kejriwal has been named in an FIR for allegedly provoking people by making an inflammatory speech. The dharna had witnessed many violent scuffles with the police. Sources said that investigators were scanning raw footage to identify accused persons.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Police received a complaint on Wednesday evening from Delhi Teachers’ Association who accused AAP supporters of misbehaving with them.

Sources said the police would register a case under Sections 509 (gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and 341 (wrongful restraint) of the IPC. “They (teachers) were sitting outside the Delhi Secretariat for a protest and came on Tuesday afternoon at Rail Bhavan to meet with the Delhi CM. But on the way, they were stopped by AAP supporters and misbehaved,” police said.

Sources said that the first FIR was registered on January 20 on a beat constable’s complaint which said that Kejriwal, along with Delhi Education Minister Manish Sisodia, Delhi law Minister Somnath Bharti and some other Cabinet Ministers, violated Section 144 of the CrPC by entering New Delhi district area. Following Kejriwal’s speech, AAP supporters staged a protest and also damaged Government property.

A case under Sections of 147 (rioting), 149 (unlawful assembly), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of duty), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 353 (assaulting and obstructing the police from carrying out their duty) of the IPC was registered at Parliament Street police station on January 20.
